Been busy birding….

I havn’t updated my blog in a few days.. I have been birding in between work and by the end of the day, I just feel lazy…

Dodge Park has been the place to be… I have had 21 species of warblers there on two days in the last week… Highlights were of course the Kirtland’s Warbler which I covered on previous posts and the two Prothonotary Warblers… LSCMP has been slow this spring but I still think there are a couple of good days left in the park this year… Nicholson Nature Center in Clinton Twp is great for Canada Warblers… The other day I was getting ready to push the shutter button on the Camera to photograph a Canada Warbler when I noticed another bird behind it… It was a Golden-winged Warbler… Before I could shoot it, it flew up in the tree above me and I managed to quick documentation shots before it took off…

I have been searching Wetzel State Park for Cuckoos with no luck… Both species have been known to breed there, so if I have to I will keep on searching into June.. Of course the Clay-colored Sparrows are back and I love hearing them sing… No sign of the Sedge Wren, but in previous years it shows up around the 21st, so hopefully we get lucky…

Bobolinks were going crazy today in a field on 25 mile rd between gratiot ave and new haven rd… I managed some ok photos but will go back for some better ones… This is an area where Henslow’s Sparrow was last june… Gonna be keeping an eye open for that bird….

  1. Hi Paul, can you tell me where the field is on 25 mile road? A friend and I went looking for bobolinks today and drove 25 mile but weren’t sure where to look. We also went to Wetzel but didn’t find them either place. Thanks.

    • Tom, It is on 25 mile between Gratiot and New Haven Rd.. If you are coming from Gratiot, it will be on the right side of the road… there is some type of wood railing structure in the field and a little berm along the edge of the field… You will pass a metal guard rail and it will be up a few fields from there…
