Varied Thrush and Red Phalarope at Lk St. Clair Metropark 10/30

Yesterday I got a call from Andy Weinrauch that Brandon had relocated the Varied Thrush and that there was a Red-necked Phalarope in the bay bordering Pointe Rosa Marsh at Lk St. Clair Metropark… By the time I got there, there was some discussion on whether this was a Red-necked vs a Red Phalarope… Thicker bill and in good light yellow could be seen at the base of the bill… the back was gray with no striping… these pointed toward a Red Phalarope… It was a long ways away and everyones photos are massivly cropped, but so cool to have two rarities in the same location at one time.

This did not last long… at 415pm Mary Trombley and Vikki Jones witnessed a Cooper’s Hawk kill the Varied Thrush… Unbelievable…

Two Lifers in Macomb County in one day… same location… doesn’t happen often…
