Red-necked Phalarope – Lk St. Clair Metropark

I got a call from Tom Heatley this morning… he had found a single Red-necked Phalarope(224)  in the North Marsh.. I happen to be near Mt. Clemens so I was there in a few minutes…. It was in Scope range only and working a muddy, weedy area with some Wilson’s Snipe, Pectoral Sandpiper, Killdeer and Semipalmated Plover and Sandpiper… A short time before I arrived Tom had seen a Northern Harrier buzzing the Marsh and a flock of Long-billed Dowitchers….. Kevin Rysiewski was also there and after a few minutes of enjoying there company it was back to work for me…  On call this weekend…. The camera is still in the shop, so no pictures, but those birds were way out there…..

Update: 9/17/2012. The Picture below was taken by Barb Baldinger… I give Barb credit for attempting a photo at that range and I appreciate her letting me post it on my blog… The Phalarope was seen at the North Marsh today by another birder….
