Cold day birding from car

January is going to be a crazy work month for me… I am out of town several times and birding will be almost non-existent. However, I got out for 3 hours today. I headed to the dump at 28 mi and Frost Rd and it did not disappoint.. 3 Bald Eagles were there today, 15 Red-tailed Hawks and a dark phase Rough-legged Hawk. The Gulls were either high up in the air or roosting out of sight, so I took off down County Line Rd to 30 mi Rd where I found a group of gulls sitting in the field. There was a Lesser Black-backed Gull sitting on the ground with the rest of them. A Greater Black-backed Gull buzzed the group but did not land. The rest were mostly Herring Gulls… Down the road on 30 mi near Havenridge Rd I came across 3 Ring-necked Pheasants feeding in a field. I found a flock of Cedar Waxwings on Bates Rd and 29 mi.. On Omo Rd I found a male Northern Harrier buzzing the fields that back up to Wetzel State Park… I headed home and found a dark phase Rough-legged Hawk sitting in a tree near Ray Center Rd and 26 mi Rd… I managed to get a couple of picks out the car window before it took off… nothing more than documentation shots… all in all a good day birding and I never left the car!!
