Purple Finch and Stilt Sandpiper…. No, not at the same place…

After speaking with Kevin yesterday and viewing his pictures of the Purple Finches at Stoney Creek Metropark, I decided to head there and give it a try… Well, what would you know, Mr. Stoney Creek himself was there… we looked for and found the Purple Finches and I was able to get a couple of shots… They were located across the road from the Osprey Trail…  They seem to like to hang out in a couple of the dead trees there….. I also found an Olive-sided Flycatcher in the same area…

As soon as I got home from work I got a call from Kevin who tells me that Tom Heatley has a Stilt Sandpiper at Wetzel…. I of course being the birder I am, peel out of my driveway and head that way… I only live 15 minutes from Wetzel so I was there in no time…. I found Tom on the north end of the pond north of 27 mile road with a Stilt Sandpiper in his scope, amongst a group of G Yellowlegs and a few Wilson Snipe…. The sun was glaring down on the water and the birds were on a mud island in the middle of the pond, so they were out of my Lens reach, but I will try again later…. Very Cool….. It continues to be such an awesome year for birding in Macomb County!!!!
