So much for the shorebird habitat….

I stopped by the pond behind Partridge Creek Mall today… I suspected that after the rain, it was probably flooded… sure enough, its a lake… Its a great spot in Macomb County as long as the water level is down… the pond is actually a drainage ditch for the mall parking lots and surrounding businesses and it only takes a decent rain to fill it up… the good news is that it goes down quickly too…. so hopefully it will be a mud flat again soon…. As I stood looking over the pond at 5pm today, I saw a Common Nighthawk buzzing over the water and the mall parking lot…. it was getting cloudy, ready to rain again, but I took a hail mary shot at it with horrible lighting… I also found an American Kestrel sitting in a tree near the pond/parking lot and snapped a couple of photos…

  1. Don’t you just know it…. After reading your report I made the 62 mile round trip there yesterday and found “the lake”. Of course I hadn’t been there before so I didn’t know what to expect. The only shore bird I saw was a solitary Solitary Sandpiper. Ah well, at least I was birding.
