Stilt Sandpipers – Partridge Creek Mall and Gloede Ditch Conservation Area

I woke up early and had two places to hit before I got home and worked around the house… first stop was LSCMP… Nothing new here… Least and Semipalmated Sandpipers, Semipalmated Plover x 2 and Spotted Sandpipers… The shorebirding has not been real good here this fall but the whole park is under construction… they are redoing the whole parking lot and adding in ponds and a whole new drainage system…  I can’t wait to see it completed..  I then planned on heading to the pond behind the walmart at Romeo Plank and Hall Rd…. Its been real active with shorebirds and I will be keeping a close eye on this area…. As I am about to get in my car and head that way, I got a call from Tom Heatley who is already there and he has two Stilt Sandpipers… I am there in about 10 minutes and am also joined by Kevin Rysiewski and Jerry Sniderman…  We also had Pectoral , Least and Semipalmated Sandpipers, Semipalmated Plovers and a Solitary Sandpiper…. Managed a few shots of the Stilt Sandpiper and then headed home…. Nice way to start off my Sunday….

  1. Excellent pictures Paul ! When is the best time to go there as far as photography goes? Best time for good lighting, morning, midday, late afternoon?

    • Mike, These were taken at about 9am…. The sun is behind you if you approach from the walmart parking lot… The mud around the pond is rather firm…
