Willet – Lake St. Clair Metropark

I got a text from Mike and Doris today that she had found a Willet on the beach at LSCMP…. I headed that way and met them on the beach not to far from the splash zone… The Willet was moving back and forth with a group of gulls and terns…. I love the pattern on the wings when it takes flight… we were joined by Kevin and while we were all looking at the gulls and terns ¬†we noticed that in the middle of the large flock, there was a Common Tern standing by itself… The red in its bill stood out from all the Forster’s terns… its tail was shorter and there was dark feathers on the outside of its primaries… very cool… Nice way to spend the 4th….

In looking thru my photos this morning of the Willet, I came across the flock of gulls and terns and noticed a mixture of Common and Forster’s Terns in one group….
