The Ivory Gull in Flint Michigan was found dead this morning. There was no trauma to the body. It was seen alive at 940 and discovered dead at 1130. It was collected and is on the way to the University of Michigan Ann Arbor for a Necropsy. Sad day for the birding community but may people got to see and photograph such a unique rare bird… RIP
Went back today and shot some more photos of the Ivory Gull… I just couldn’t help myself… who knows when I will see another one, if ever…
There have been a pair of Sandhill Cranes in the area of 30mi and Kuntzman rd for the last week… I tried to get some close ups in the corn field but they flew off to the little pond off of 30mi rd.. at least I got a decent photo of one in flight..
An Ivory gull was found yesterday by Lauren Lafave on the Campus of the University of Michigan Flint. When I saw it today it was near the dam between Saginaw and 5th street. I parked in Lot A off of E. Boulevard. Never thought I would see one and especially an hour from home. Great bird.. this is a first year bird because of the speckling and black in the face.
Got a text from Tom Heatley today of a Snowy Owl on the roof of a condo at the entrance to Harvey Ensign. I was only visible from the turnaround inside the gate. I could only see his head, but this is the first Snowy of the year for me… there have been a good number of them in St. Clair County, but not Macomb.
