On the hunt for a Common Redpoll…

Winter is running out and Common Redpolls are scarce… There were some sightings a couple of months ago near Wetzel and one in Wayne Hoch’s backyard… I figured with the snow the feeders at Stony would be active and they were… The usual suspects were there plus 6 Pine Siskins… Then I checked out the feeders at Dequindre and Mt. Vernon.. a flock of 30 Pine Siskins were there and a couple of female Purple Finch… Later in the day I found out that Jeff Swider had seen a Common Redpoll at his feeders as well as an early Field Sparrow… I headed there and did not see the Redpoll but we both saw a male Purple Finch… I used his bird blind (shed) and managed some close ups of a Red-breasted Nuthatch and some other feeder birds… While we were sitting outside on his wrap around porch, a nice adult Coopers Hawk buzzed the feeders… Apple Swider Farm is one amazing piece of property… Love it there…
