Walter and Mary Burke Park

This is a great park in downtown New Baltimore for gulls… they normally start coming in an hour or two before sunset…. by morning they are gone…. I visited it a few times on the holiday weekend… No Thayer’s or Iceland yet, but there are plenty of Herring, Ring-billed, Greater black-backed and a few Lesser black-backed gulls around…

Stony Creek Metropark update

There continues to be large numbers of waterfowl on the lake… Today I had 80 Hooded Mergansers, Common Merganser and Red-breasted Merganser (1 male).. Common Goldeneye, Bufflehead, Mallards and 1 Common Loon.  At Walter and Mary Burke Park in New Baltimore, Gulls are coming into the bay at night to roost… There were at least 300 Gulls there today with the majority being Herring and Ring-billed. I did see 3 Great Black-backed Gull… I got there late and the light was fading…

Misc Photos

I have been so swamped with work lately that I have fallen behind on my blog… Waterfowl migration is finally in full swing… It was delayed by the warm November we have been having, but over the last week there have been good numbers of Hooded Mergansers, Common Goldeneye, Gadwall, Redhead and Ruddy Duck at Stony Creek Metropark. Today Tom and Kathi Hince reported 4 Trumpeter Swans there and there were three Tundra the day before. The Merlin still shows itself at Eastwood Beach or Baypoint Beach…

On Tuesday, I had 20 Lapland Longspurs and 30 Horned Larks in Northern Macomb County and 5 Snow Buntings at the DNR station on South River Rd….

Snow Goose near Stony Creek

Today I had a flock of Canada Geese flyover me on 26 mi Rd near Stony Creek Metropark… I ignored them until I noticed a Snow Goose in the bunch and followed them, nearly crashing my car… LOL…   They landed in a Condo Complex pond and I snapped a couple of photos out my car window… Nice surprise for the day..
