Red-necked Grebe at Stony Creek Metropark

I walked the 6mi around Stony Creek yesterday with my wife… we were taking advantage of the sunshine and 42 degree temps… Of course I did not have my binoculars or camera with me… We finished our walk and got in the car to go home and Kevin Rysiewski calls me and tells me that he and Wayne are at Stony looking at a Red-necked Grebe found by David Boon earlier in the day…  I diverted and drove back to their location and admired this beautiful bird… I did not have my camera so I went back this morning to get some photos… it was there and very approachable… There were also Canvasback, Common Goldeneye and Red-breasted Mergansers in the same location… The Grebe was feasting on a ton of fish near the North Dam and it was very entertaining to watch…

Short-eared Owl at LSCMP

Wayne Hoch and Kevin Rysiewski went to LSCMP yesterday to see the Short-eared Owls that have been hanging in the North Marsh… Kevin was kind enough to send me a map of where they were hanging out and I went there tonight to see them… They are hard to photograph at dusk with my lens… Its not great in low light and this makes noisy images that require software to remove…. this in turn makes the images look soft…. Oh well, I wont be selling any of these to National Geographic, but it was still fun to photograph these great Owls….
