I have not updated my blog in a bit… life gets too busy… I did manage to get a little bit of birding in on 10/3/13 at dawn before work and after work…. In the morning I hit Stony creek metropark as the sun was rising… the water levels continue to fall there as they work on the south dam…. There is large mud flats all over the lake…. On the shore fishing lookout across from the golf course there were a number of good shorebirds… the highlight were to American Golden Plover…. They were within Scope range so no pics… Kevin Rysiewski met me there and we were able to verify no black axillary on the birds in flight… There also were Pectoral Sandpipers and one Wilson’s Snipe… We found a pair of Northern Shoveler and one Gadwall… a couple of Palm Warblers were on the ground in front of the cattails… There also were 3 Sandhill Cranes in the same area… On the Baypoint beach side of the lake we found 8 American Pipits, American Wigeon and another Gadwall….
In the evening I took a run to Lake St. Clair Metropark and checked out the beach… there were 5 Pectoral Sandpipers, 1 Juvenile Dunlin and a couple of Least Sandpipers and 2 Semipalmated Plovers… Gulls were all over the beach, a couple of Herrings and mostly Ring-billed….
